Furnaces and Electric to Gas Conversions

Heating and furnace repair and installation

Heater and furnace installation, repair, maintenance, replacement and electric to gas conversions, gas or electric, for homes across NW Greater Houston.

Houston winters are short, so furnaces fail from sitting idle

A furnace in Tomball might run hard for a few cold weeks and sit untouched the other ten months. That pattern kills heating equipment in particular ways: a flame sensor coated with a thin film so the burner lights and drops out after a few seconds, a pilot or igniter that has weakened, a draft inducer motor with dry bearings, or a condensate line that clogged during the cooling season and trips the float switch the first cold morning. The homeowner sees the same thing every time: the thermostat calls, the blower waits, and nothing warms up.

Many furnaces in this area live in the attic, which adds its own failures. Summer heat bakes wire insulation and plastic parts, and a cracked heat exchanger or a loose flue joint is not something you can see from the thermostat. An electric furnace fails differently: sequencers, heat strips and limit switches go before anything mechanical does, and a strip that has burned out can leave the system running with half its capacity.

A furnace call starts at the safety circuit and ends at the temperature rise

The tech works through the furnace in the order the unit itself does: thermostat call, inducer, pressure switch, igniter, gas valve, flame sensing, blower. Whichever step the sequence stops at tells you what failed, and cleaning a flame sensor or replacing an igniter is a different repair from a gas valve or a control board. Gas pressure, the heat exchanger, the flue and carbon monoxide at the supply get checked before the panel goes back on, because those are the findings that matter for safety, not comfort.

Installation and replacement cover gas and electric furnaces and heaters in the brands Crossway sells, Amana, Carrier, Daikin, Goodman and ICP, with service on every other brand. The attic photo on this page shows what a clean install looks like in practice: an Amana furnace with a Honeywell media filter cabinet, an AquaGuard float switch on the condensate line, and the gas shutoff within reach. The sheet-metal shop in Tomball builds the plenums and transitions that make those connections fit.

Electric to gas conversions are part of the heating work too. A home that heats with electric strips can move to a gas furnace when a gas line is available, which changes the equipment, the flue and the permitting, and is quoted after a visit rather than over the phone. A longtime customer wrote on Google that Crossway replaced her furnaces and all of the ductwork after her family moved to higher ground, which is the size of job this team takes on.

Service the furnace in the fall and keep the number handy for January

A heating tune-up or inspection covers the flame sensor, igniter, burners, heat exchanger, flue, blower and filter, along with the electrical connections and the condensate path. In this climate, October is the right time, before the first cold front tests everything at once.

The Preferred Service Agreement covers heating as well as cooling: $15.00 per month or $180 per year, with priority service, a $47.50 service fee from 7:30 am to 5 pm, 15% off repairs, 5% off replacement equipment, and automatic reminders when heating or cooling inspections are due.

Call back if the burner shuts off after a few seconds, the flame looks yellow or lazy, the blower runs without heat, or you smell gas or exhaust. For a gas smell, leave the house and call your gas utility first. Emergency furnace and heater calls are taken around the clock at 832-250-6191.
